What is the Family & Caregiver Education Series?

The Family & Caregiver Education Series: How to Live Well with Dementia is a two-part series of educational group sessions for family members and caregivers of people living with dementia.

These sessions cover the most common concerns for families living with dementia. You will have the chance to learn expert tips and have your questions answered.

Our sessions are led by a team of health care professionals with expertise in dementia care, offering best-practice solutions for your needs.

Our sessions are held virtually, with live discussion built into each session. People living with dementia are welcome to join at no additional cost!

Session overview

There are two sets of sessions offered: the Core Education Series and the Advanced Education Series.

Core Education Series

The Core Education Series covers the basics of how to live well with dementia. No prior knowledge is necessary.

Click a session to see some frequently asked questions to be addressed.

  • What is dementia? How effective are medications? What lifestyle changes can protect our memory?

  • How can I better communicate with my partner/family member who has dementia?

  • Lack of motivation or interest? Aggressive expressions? We’ll discuss practical approaches to managing these challenges.

  • Sleep difficulties? Problems taking medications? Refusing care? Appetite change? We’ll discuss practical approaches to managing these challenges.

  • How can we make our homes more safe and reduce risk of falls? How can we better access the services and supports we need? Driving concerns? We’ll discuss practical approaches to managing these challenges.

  • As a care partner, how do I manage my own needs? How can we plan for the future?

Advanced Education Series

The Advanced Education Series builds upon materials in the Core Education Series. We recommend completing the Core Education Series first.
